Strepsils and sugar-coated fennel seeds
ginger biscuit cheesecake base and perhaps a perfumed hint of violets
With water we found the warmth of chilli
We head to western Speyside for Cask 55
The taste was that of a smoky fruits de mer platter followed by sea-buckthorn meringue with sorbet and shortbread – very pleasing indeed
Cask No. 13.111 Juicy oak & vanilla Strepsils and sugar-coated fennel seedsThe neat nose displayed a vibrant and rather minty sherry profile, with a lot of orange notes such as spiced marmalade, orange blossom, satsuma and blood orange. Some water made it broader, more aromatic and richer, with many more dark fruits, pickled ginger, balsamic glaze and a dense, rich, earthy note. The neat palate displayed more wood spices, more ginger, some nibbling tannin, herbal liqueurs, woodruff tea, grapefruit and a nice tinge of rancio.
