Description

It is a helmet worn by musicians and dancers in Bugaku (court dances with music)

The stem is colored brownish with clear urushi on top leaving the texture of wood to appear

which is the tradition of Negoro nuri (根来塗)

Katakuchi (片口) means "pouring lip on one side"

The last five pictures show how this box was created by Tomonori Yamasaki in his workshop in Wajima City

Beni Oozara 紅大皿 Owan It is a helmet wornThis large plate is one achievement for Hida Shunkei, thus not a typical work. It realizes a true combination of the traditional beauty of clear urushi lacquer work of Shunkei with a fine wood work in a very contemporary design. This size of the plate is as large as 30cm (11. 8 inch) in diameter. It is made from one piece of solid wood. As a heritage of Hida Shunkei, you will see the fine continuous wood grains beneath the clear and smooth surface.
