Smooth as silk crooner White released the track on Oct. 5, 1974. It reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the UK chart with the track, which also charted in Australia, Canada, and across Europe. It was in fact certified Gold by the RIAA on Dec. 18, 1974.
